Lorina Bulwer embroided this sampler in Great Yarmouth workhouse female lunatic ward in around 1900.  The 12ft by 1ft long sampler is just one long confused rant with no punctuation, much like this blog!

The sampler is addressed to the Maharajah of Kelvedon Brandon Thetford and begins:

“The Chatter is I Miss Lorina Bulwer Cambs Woman Drove to Thrigby Hall Norfolk E. Bulwer Married An Hemaphrodite Eunich I Miss Lorina Bulwer Was Examined By Dr Pinching of Walthamstow Essex And Found To Be A Properly Shaped Woman”

As promised here’s the extra picture heavy post about the Vienna Workshops textiles and fabrics.  There was loads of pictures I wanted to include but I had to filter or this post would have been huge.  I love the fact that most of the original fabric catalogue books have survived and so giving the black and white photos an extra dimension.  Most of the images are from the early 1920’s but way ahead of their time… enjoy!

I was going to post a blog about an obsession of ours Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshops)..  A large community of artists and designers working in Vienna from 1903 thought to the early 1930’s.  Who’s main aim was to resist mass production and industrialization.

I originally intended to start with there textile and clothing designs as they are mind blowing, way, way ahead of their time and one of the things we would collect if we could afford to. 

However our darling daughter Chromium Dumb Belle has been feeling a little glum and its kind of hard to give her a hug when she is 5000 miles away.  So i thought I would start with their ceramics as I just know there will be a few pieces she hasn’t seen that she will just adore…. hopefully this will make up for the rubbish emails I send her when she is feeling a little down.

On Saturday we did the Vintage and Contemporary Market at Woodbridge in Suffolk.  We missed the first one as we were selling elsewhere but friends had given us glowing reports….so we just had to do this one!  It was quite a challenge to get everything into our tiny stall but somehow we managaged it.  I was going to take a lot of photos but as soon as started to display stock…people started buying and we were soon mobbed as were the stall around us, so I didnt get a chance to roam with my camera.   The day was perfect, weather good and surrounded by friends new and old who all seemed to have a very healthy sales day.  I must also thank all our customers who were full of praise and nice comments, this really helps to make a long working day an enjoyable one.  Looking forward to the next one!!!

Before the rush!  I really would have loved to have got a photo with our stall all set up…

This knitting pattern book usually sells for over £20 on the rare occasions it is for sale on Ebay.  I have ‘upped’ this pattern as bonus, so I will also still post the regular free knitting pattern tomorrow.  To get this pattern it can be downloaded from here… however before the download will start you will need to fill in a small, very quick survey, competition or offer.
