How to Get More Etsy Traffic and Sales

EtsyOne of the reasons for originally setting up this blog was to promote our range of products, both handmade and vintage.  I have dabbled with Etsy over the past year or so, but always end up listing stuff on Ebay as stuff tend to sell quicker on Ebay as it pulls more traffic.  I make no secret that I hate Ebay, the way they treat their sellers and their constantly growing fees and I would love to see the day when I no longer ever have to use them.  Over the last month or so I have been playing with Etsy to see if I can more or less kick Ebay into touch…

The Problem with Etsy.

Etsy is a brilliant concept and is getting good traffic, but due to their lack of category things tend to get completely lost a day or so after listing your item…

The Solution

The obvious solution is to drive more traffic directly to your Etsy shop, this can be done in numerous ways, such as:

  • Listing a few items each day to keep the Etsy shop ‘fresh’
  • Implementing social media, such as blogs, Facebook and Twitter & Flickr
  • Adding a mailing list
  • Forum Postings
  • Etsy shop search engine optimization
  • Etsy Treasury posting
  • Paid advertising

Above are just some of the ways to improve sales and increase traffic to your Etsy shop.  It is not a full and comprehensive list, just some of the ideas I have had whilst typing this blog post.

Follow Me.

Over the next few weeks, I intend to implement all of the above and more in an attempt to increase my currently pitiful Etsy traffic/sales rate.  I will show you what I have done in my quest for Etsy domination and how well it has worked.  I will post my Google Analytics Stats for my Etsy site, so you can see how well things are progressing and also show how best to use Google Analytics in conjunction with Etsy.

I have decided to post my Etsy efforts on this blog as it will help me to remain focused to the task and hopefully people will support me by leaving comments of their experiences of Etsy…

Hi ya there! I was just browsing Etsy and found a lovely 50s dress which you have for sale. Sadly it’s not my size but thought I’d call in and say Hi. I am really intrigued as to how your active Etsy campaign will go. I must admit I haven’t uploaded anything for ages but I agree, that to put new items on every few days should really help. Good luck with your venture and see you at Burnham Market. If you have any cotton 1950s dresses in a 14/16 I’m sure I will buy them!!! Bye for now, Julie
